Pope Francis will consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on Friday, 25 March, during the Celebration of Penance that he will preside over at 5pm (ROME TIME) in St Peter's Basilica. The day of the Feast of the Annunciation of the Lord was chosen for the consecration. Archbishop Thomas Wenski announced that effective Palm Sunday, “the obligation to participate in the Eucharist in person on Sundays and other holy days of obligation is restored. Unless excused for a serious reason (illness, care of infants or elderly, etc.) those who deliberately fail in this obligation commit a grave sin.”
